Learn more about what we do
Training Philosophy
Dogs and humans work best when given choices and are rewarded. In order to learn, dogs require continual feedback. As humans, we have the opportunity to control the information we give dogs. By providing them with choice and reward, they learn what we want them to in a way that promotes the behavior to stick. Choice and positive reinforcement are the basis of my approach to any training, whether it is basic obedience or tougher behavioral cases.
It is my belief that there is no such thing as force free or positive only. Fences and leashes are aversive and force a dog to be in a certain area. However, punishment and correction should be used sparingly and only when a dog truly and fully understands what is being asked. Correcting a dog when it is confused or when the cue is not clear creates mistrust and fear.
